Keep Calm And Plug In!

Electricity is the future… even though it’s kind of been part of every day life for centuries. The social, legal and environmental shift towards Alterntively Fuelled vehicles has driven car manufacturers to develop bigger and better electric vehicles – and Kia’s award-winning All-New e-Niro is the best of the best. However, electric cars are a different kettle of fish for sales people traditionally accustomed to selling – well, non-electric cars. Petrol. Diesel.

It was our job, with e-Niro, not only to teach staff about the benefits of the car, but the simplicity of the ‘electric lifestyle’ for their customers. Laptops, smartphones, microwaves, e-Readers, TVs… why not our cars too?

To convey this relaxed sense of ‘new, but not really new’ to our learners, we applied a humorous ‘Retro-Futuristic’ theme to our leaning experience. ‘Imagine a world’ became the motto of the course… and with the course narrated by our Alexa-style assistant ‘Electra’ (that’s pretty good, right?), users were quickly placed at ease and ready to learn.

Making It Relatable

With the task of relaxing and demystifying, as well as educating, we set out to combine learning with familiarisation. Our e-Niro course was packed full of interactivity that our learners would be familiar with – setting the time on an alarm clock, plugging a plug into a socket, or clicking points on a map.

A great example of how we used familiarisation to illustrate key concepts was in our ‘One Pedal Driving’ section, where we explained the fundamentals of a complex concept (regenerative braking sending charge back into the battery for drivers) using a stereotype we all know – that of ‘frugal’ people.

A fun video from our creative studio Lower 8th lightly mocked those who squeeze the last dregs out of their toothpaste tube, re-use their teabags*, and rub the batteries in their remote controls to make them last longer, to bring the main sales point home – that ‘One Pedal Driving’ was simply for those who wanted to get ‘the most’ out of their battery charge.

*Come on, really? Just get a new teabag, people!

See For Yourself!

We wanted to give learners the chance to get in the car and look around, to see that the interior was just like any other car they were used to selling, except for a few cool modifications.

We created a digital 360º interior for learners to look around simply by using their mouse, with interactive features to learn about. This ‘futuristic’ activity helped users familiarise themselves with the interior of the car in a very hands-on way, while maintaining the excitement of the course!
